The item was sent on time and it was exactly what I had ordered. I would purchase from this company again. I already own a Slacker radio, and I bought this one as a gift for my son-in-law for Christmas. No problems whatsoever.
Slacker does have a fix: [.].I have chatted with support several times and they are great. When it fails to start up, or sync I want to scream. It's very sad that the firmware and technical problems are so common that they have to publish full repair procedures. I have been using the G1 portable for a year and suffered through all the firmware issues and technical bugs. Slacker is a great concept and I hope to see them succeed. There is a KNOWN problem with the G1 starting up and hundreds of blogs on the subject.
Honestly the G1 should be recalled and everyone given a credit voucher to purchase a G2 because of all the known problems. I absolutely love the Slacker radio concept and streaming music. When it works - it is GREAT. Prompt response and they walk you through repair procedures.
Update works OK, wifi connection to open network and using WPA at home works like a champ. Custom stations are great, and I have added and deleted stations many times. I also use the Slacker web client, but the portable device is nice in the car and with the stereo. Mine works exactly as advertised. I don't use for my own mp3s, just for Slacker stations. Well worth the price I paid.
Love Slacker radio, but this device is cursed, it worked for 8 weeks then stopped, sometimes it turns on, sometimes it won't. Sometimes it syncs, sometimes it won't.Very frustrating.I do not recommend this product.
This is CRITICAL. Hints: If you purchase the G1 model over the newer G2 model, only load 1 station the first time. After the installation of new firmware and the loading of one station, do a factory reset. Also, this thing shines when coupled with an iRiver FM transmitter in the car.Cons: Oddly designed buttons, finicky scroll wheel, odd touch bar controls. I was ready to throw this thing up against the wall before I figured all this out and just want to save someone else the grief. This allows for a quick refresh and lets the portable radio update the firmware.
You will then have to reload your stations, but it should go much more smoothly. Pros: endless selection of free music, lots of station choices, make your own station, beautiful screen, older model G1 is very affordable. The design could have been better, but probably created to leave the screen uncluttered. The firmware it ships with is very buggy.
